hmm, I've occasionally been expericancing what sounds like a similar
issue.

the screen locks, it doesn't respond to the keyboard (but caps lock still
works), frequently the mouse pointer still moves, but you can't click on
anything.

it ususally happens to me a few min after starting firefox (with 10-15
windows holding a couple hundred tabs), so it could also be a firefox bug
if it can capture the input and not release it.

I've experianced this on my T61 laptop, and my work machine (Radeon X1300
series)

I'm currently running ubuntu 10.10 which is 2.6.35-25, so if it is the
same problem, it wasn't introduced between 2.6.36 and 2.6.37.

like the OP of the bug report, this is not something that happens
frequently, but I don't do much that stresses the video, so starting all
these tabs is about as hard as I drive it.

Please still list it.

I intend to test this against 2.6.38-rc5 once it is out. It didn't happen
with 2.6.36 which I used for several weeks now, so its pretty safe to say
that its a regression of 2.6.37.

Thanks,

There have been several recent reports of lockups, with nothing in the logs or
nothing recoverable. I've seen some of these running the git3 kernel on a VM
(Fedora 14) so it may not be related to the specific video card but to X in general.

I've had too little information to justify a proper bug report.

Added linux-btrfs and Helmut Hullen, who seemed to experience hangs on a
T23 with BTRFS as well, to Cc.

Well I now tested with 2.6.36 for more than a week and I did not see any
of such hangs upto now. The machine seems table with 2.6.36. So I think
its really an regression of 2.6.37.

I am stuck with what to try next. Since trying to track it down to a
specific commit appears too involved for me and its appears also quite
laborious to get any value debug information out of the kernel - cause it
can take days for the bug to appear -, I am inclined to either test with
2.6.37.1 once its available or just give it a go with 2.6.38-rc3 or rc4.
Maybe 2.6.38-rc3/4 would be the best bet, I have seen a report on the
btrfs mailing list of 2.6.38 fixing a BTRFS hang bug that appeared with
2.6.37. I am just not sure whether its related or not.

There is another thread about 2.6.37 related BTRFS hang:

flush-btrfs-1 hangs when building openwrt

I will add this as comment to the bug report as well.

Thanks,
