I think you will have better luck if you go subsystem by subsystem, e.g. send gpio change to gpio maintainer, usb change to usb maintainer and so on. In addition, you'll want to try and understand/explain why those lines were added in the 1st place and how it won't break other existing use cases by removing them. Maybe "git blame" will help for that...
