I seem to have two issues. The first one is what you described above, the other
is what looks like spurious print. I have appended the full boot log below.

This may partly help one of the problem I have seen. Now, it would be easier to
remove the lines we don't care. Interestingly the dmesg output does not contain any
mangling.
